WiSE CASE STUDY

I'm Maurice Grayling. I have just finished the WiSE Course; this is my story:

"For the past eleven years, amongst other drugs, I have been a cocaine addict.  In January 2008, after losing the respect of my parents and partner, home, car and possessions, it finally took its toll.

My depression was at rock bottom, I was ready to commit suicide. So I contacted my doctor, who put me in contact with rehab and the crisis team. They quickly realised drugs and debt were the root cause of my depression and quickly put me in contact with Framework.

After no joy in finding work, my support worker at Framework suggested the WiSE Course. At this point I was sceptical as I didn't realise a person like me could eventually help others and be a support worker. So I began to attend the Course. After just a couple of weeks attending the Course, I started to feel different in myself and didn't understand why.

In reflecting back its now I see what difference the course has made to me. My self awareness has been taken to levels that I didn't think possible - I am more confident about everything I do; I am more outspoken and more relaxed, instead of being on edge. I feel now I have finally got a purpose in life as the course has inspired me to want to help others and become non-judgemental. Its now I have a drive to succeed, I am going to succeed in everything I do!

I am doing voluntary work for Framework, I have a loving girlfriend and a wonderful son, I finally won back the respect of my parents. Without the course I don't know where I would be in life. So I would like to thank the WiSE Course and everyone associated with it, especially my support worker who told me about it. The Course has been a life changing experience for the better. I also hope the Course carries on all the good work, helping change people's lives for the good.

Many, many thanks!"

Step Ahead comment:

"Its so thrilling when you hear that someone has truly participated, rather than just turned up.  The WiSE Core Skills Programme has been designed to be challenging and high impact.  For Maurice to have benefited to the extend he outlines he heeded to put into practice what he was learning ... he has obviously been very committed to doing so.  Well done Maurice and our good wishes go with you into your future career!"
